U.S. MARKET: NEW CPSC ACCREDITATION - LEAD IN CHILDREN’S METAL JEWELRY
Sunday, 15 March 2009 19:00

ICQ has been accredited in the list of the CPSC laboratories. ICQ has received the accreditation for the determination of lead in children's metal jewelry (CPSC test method CPSCCH-E1001-08). See: www.cpsc.gov

Since November 12 2008, JEWELRY and SILVERWARE for children must be accompanied by a certificate of conformity that the product complies with all the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regulations. This certificate must contain various information regarding the product, the safety of the product and the manufacturer.

In order to receive the certificate of conformity, the product must be subjected to specific tests, such as:

  • chemical tests (for example: total lead, lead in metals and lead in paint)
  • flammability test
  • physical-mechanical test.

These tests must be performed by a CPSC accredited laboratory, when required.
Starting on August 14 2009, the current maximum limit of lead in paint will decrease to 90 ppm and products not in compliance with the new limit can no longer be sold, distributed, marketed and imported in the U.S. market.
