One year after the publication of the CPSIA, next August 14th the requirement for tracking label on children’s products will come into force.
On the 20th of July a guideline was published, while not exhaustive, to provide some specification on the tracking label’s requisite, among which are:
- mark shall indicate the date and location of production and information identifying the product (run number or batch code);
- such information should be reported on both the product on its packaging;
- the responsibility of tracking label is attributable to both the manufacturer and importer;
- there is no standard format for the mark.
The guideline specifies certain circumstances in which the tracking label may be omitted on the product, provided that it is present on the packaging or on certain parts of the item consisting of several components.
Remember you the following requirements:
- August 14th: the limit on the content of lead in surface coating will decrease to 90 ppm while on substrates will decrease to 300 ppm;
- August 17th: every toy shall comply with the ASTM F 963-08 and the standard shall be mentioned on Certificates of Compliance instead of ASTM F 963-07e1. Only exception is represented by the toy chest, for which it will continue to apply and refer to the ASTM 963-07e1.
