Washington: adoption of the RULES FOR NOTIFYING CHEMICALS of HIGH CONCERN TO CHILDREN (CHCC) in CHILDREN’s PRODUCTS
Wednesday, 28 December 2011 10:29

Based on information published by the Department of Ecology (DOE) of the State of Washington, on July 8, 2011 the rules for the implementation of part of the “Children’s Safe Product Act” should be officially adopted.
The rules refer to the obligation to notify the Department of Ecology (DOE) if any Chemicals of High Concern to Children (CHCC) is present within a children’s product (e.g. toys, childcare articles, children’s jewelry, clothing) placed on the market in Washington state.
The rules that should be adopted set:

•terms and conditions of the notification;
•the list of the CHCC to which the notice applies (currently 66 substances).
Notification of substances will be carried out by companies on the basis of the deadlines set by the rules, deadlines that vary depending on:

• the size of the company that places the product on the market;
• the type of the product involved.
The first deadline is set at 12 months from the adoption of the rules.
