LEAD The “Consumer Products Containing Lead (Contact with Mouth) Regulations", that applies immediately, has been recently published in order to limit the presence of lead in: - products intended for use in play or learning by children under three years of age - products, other than kitchen utensils, that are brought into contact with the user’s mouth in the course of normal use Based on the new Regulation, these products shall not contain more than 90 mg / kg of lead in all accessible parts.
We remind you that: - Since 2 April 2008 children jewellery shall comply with specific limitation to the presence of lead - It is still into force the lead limitation for surface coatings material used in furniture and other articles for children
PHTHALATES In addition to this new requirement, a limit to the content of phthalates has been introduced and will become effective on June 10, 2011.
Concerned products: toys and childcare articles Phthalates = DEHP Limit = 0.1% Phthalates = DBP Limit = 0.1% Phthalates = BBP Limit = 0.1%
Concerned products: toys and childcare articles that can be placed in the mouth of a child under 4 years of age Phthalates = DINP Limit = 0.1% Phthalates = DIDP Limit = 0.1% Phthalates = DNOP Limit = 0.1%
With this restriction, Canada comes closer to what has already been done in America and Europe to limit the presence of phthalates in certain children’s products.
