US MARKET - New ban proposals
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 09:22

In January, CPSC expressed strong concerns regarding the use of cadmium and other metals in children’s jewelry. These metals are used in children’s jewelry as a substitute for lead banned according to CPSIA 2008.

Following CPSC’s declaration the United States Congress proposed a new act known as Children’s Toxic Metals Act Bill (H.R. 4428) with the intention to ban the use of cadmium, antimony and barium in children’s jewelry.

ICQ is at your disposal to evaluate the presence of all banned metals from children’s jewelry that you produce/import.

We would like also to remind you that we're at your disposal for any clarification or tests to evaluate the compliance of your products to two other acts proposed by US Congress that would ban two additional toxic substances:

  • H.R. 3080: DMF Free Act of 2009 intends to ban from the US market (as already done in Europe), product treated with Dimethylfumarate;
  • S.753: BPA-Free Kids Act 2009 intends to ban from the US market, all children’s food or beverage containers that are composed in whole or in part of Bisphenol A.
