For manufacturers who export their toys in Canada, it shall be taken into account that products complying with EN 71-1, ASTM F 963 and/or ISO 8124 standards, may not comply with the Canadian Hazardous Products (Toys) Regulations. This is because this regulation has several requirements which are very different from the ones in the above listed standards. Examples of these differences are listed in the following. To check if a part of a toy is a small part, EN 71-1, ASTM F 963 and ISO 8124 requires testing if this part fits completely into the small part cylinder under its own weight: in Canada the part is pushed into the small part cylinder with a specified force. In Canada there is a special test for the eyes and noses of dolls, which is not mentioned in any other standard and it may cause toys complying with other standards to fail this requirement. Also chemical requirements are different. For this reason, it is recommended that manufacturers who are interested in the Canadian market have their toys tested according to the specific Canadian requirements. |
